This Thanksgiving, start a new family tradition by celebrating with a houseboat rental from Forever Houseboats. Cooking your Thanksgiving meal on a houseboat is more affordable than you might think.

At Forever Houseboats, every single boat in our Forever Fleet has a fully-equipped kitchen and a BBQ grill. Almost anything you can make in your home kitchen can be made on a houseboat. Most people prefer to spend their time onboard relaxing instead of cooking, so that’s why we have compiled a few of our favorite Thanksgiving recipes for a no-stress feast on the water.

Turkey on the BBQ Grill

If you have never grilled a turkey it can be intimidating, but it is actually really simple. You will need a shallow roasting pan to catch the drippings, and you may want some Applewood or hickory chips to give it a nice smoky flavor. You can season your bird as you would if you were cooking it in the oven or just opt for salt and pepper.

When grilling your turkey use indirect heat. After you heat up the grill, turn off half the burner. Then put on the roasting pan with the turkey breast side up and let it cook.Let the turkey reach an internal temperature of 180 degrees Fahrenheit. It should take about 10 to 13 minutes per pound, about two to three hours. Once it has cooked all the way though, take the turkey off the grill and let the meat cool for 15 minutes to let all of the delicious juices settle in before carving.

Sweet and Spicy Sweet Potatoes

Skip the marshmallows on your sweet potatoes this year and turn up the heat with simple, sweet and spicy sweet potatoes. For six servings, you will need six sweet potatoes, one to two chipotle peppers in adobo, one-quarter cup of maple syrup, one-quarter cup of olive oil, and a dash of salt and pepper. Chop the sweet potatoes into bite-sized chunks and dice the chipotle peppers. Toss everything together, then roast in a 375-degree oven for 40 minutes.

Pie Crust Pinwheels

Since these pinwheels only need to bake for 10 minutes, you can prepare them in advance and then keep them refrigerated until you are ready. The key to these super, simple cookies is to use pre-made, refrigerated pie crust. Take the pie crust out of the tin and roll it out to a rectangle. Sprinkle three to four tablespoons of sugar and three teaspoons of cinnamon across the dough. Roll it up and slice into individual pinwheels, about three-quarters to one inch wide. Bake in oven at 350 degrees for eight to 10 minutes.
