What to Do During Your Houseboat Family Vacation

You know you can go cruising along the lake in your houseboat, but what are you going to do with the rest of your time? Most people spend the entire weekend—or even the entire week—on the lake, so we suggest preparing a few fun activities ahead of time. To give you a few ideas of what to do during your houseboat family vacation, we’ve listed some of our favorite activities below.

Paddleboard

Have you ever gone paddleboarding before? It’s challenging yet fun at the same time. There are also several variations including stand-up, kneel, and laying down, so kids (and adults) can choose their level of difficulty. Cottonwood Cove Resort and Marina makes it easy to rent the paddleboards, too. Visit our website to learn more.

Fish

You don’t have to be an overachieving angler to fish in these waters! Teach your young tykes to cast a line into the depths of Lake Mohave, where they’re bound to catch something. Brush up on your game fish knowledge so you can correctly identify the catch of the day. Remember to obtain a fishing license, if you don’t already have one. You can purchase one in the marina’s gift shop if you’re in a pinch. Learn more about how to prepare your kid for a fishing trip here.

Play Games

A houseboat vacation is the perfect opportunity to spend uninterrupted time with family. Consider turning electronics off so you can enjoy each other’s company by playing good old fashioned board games. For an extra challenge, bring the game Operation. Not into board games? Throw a fun party instead.

Camp on the Beach

Create memories you and your kids will never forget by telling stories and making smores around the campfire at night. Before bed, cozy up with some blankets and listen to the fire crackle and pop while gazing up at the countless stars.

Swim

One of our favorite activities to do on a summer houseboat family vacation is to swim! Pack your sunscreen, swim suits and towels for a great time under the sun. Keep in mind children 12 and under must wear a life jacket at all times (while underway). Don’t forget to bring inflatable tubes and floats as well!

Watch a Movie

Sometimes after a long day of play, you just want to relax on the couch and watch a movie. Luckily, all of our houseboats come with a TV and DVD player so you can do just that! Take a look at our many houseboat options here.
